Getting started
What is Hometown Handyman Hub?
A neighborhood home-service marketplace for homeowners, real estate investors and professionals in Austin and the Texas Hill Country. Start with a repair list, clarify the scope and compare the work before choosing a professional.
How do I start a project?
Describe the work on Home and choose Review tasks. Edit the tasks, add photos and the Project city or ZIP, and check I reviewed this task for each task. Choose Save project, follow the account and ownership confirmations, and wait for the saved confirmation. Saving keeps work private; posting is a separate choice after public review.
How do I create an account or sign in?
Choose Sign Up, then Are you a homeowner? or Are you a contractor? before entering your account details. Sign in normally if you already have an account. Complete the verification steps shown. You can also choose Sign in with Google; choose your account type first when signing up. To keep prepared Home work through account steps, start with Save project as described under Drafts and photos.
How do I join as a contractor?
Choose the contractor option on the contractor account screen. Prepare your service profile and private portfolio, then open a saved work draft in your portfolio. Review the displayed service and work details and both photos, confirm rights and publication consent, and choose Request Hometown review. After approval, refresh review status and choose Publish reviewed portfolio to appear in Contractor Search. Review alone does not publish. Withdraw public consent or edit service/work details to revoke public text and preview reads; private originals remain saved. Already viewed copies cannot be recalled. Job-linked reviews, live matching, bidding, hiring and payments remain unavailable.
What is public on my homeowner profile?
Only the public display name, optional general city or area, and optional bio you deliberately enter are shown to anyone with your profile link. These are separate from private account and contact details. Email, phone, exact address, property type, private drafts, private photos and account or security details are not included. Keep contact details and exact addresses out of the public fields. There is no homeowner search or directory.
How do I create or update my public homeowner profile?
New homeowner setup shows a publication notice above separate public fields. Check those fields before choosing Save profile and continue. This publishes the public display details you entered.
If you already have a private homeowner account, its details are not automatically republished. In your account workspace, choose Edit my profile, enter the public details you want to share, then deliberately choose Save public profile. Use View public homeowner profile to check the result. Your existing private project workflows remain available without completing this transition.
What are the projects on the homepage?
The gallery shows example before-and-after projects, from small repairs to larger renovations. They illustrate the kinds of work you can describe; they are separate from published contractor profiles and are not completed Hometown jobs or customer reviews. Exploring an example does not post your project.
Describing your project
What should I include?
Describe the result you want, list each task and add quantities or measurements you know. Note access and scheduling constraints. Keep unknowns as questions and leave out door codes, payment information and identity documents.
Can I change the suggested tasks?
Yes. Edit each task title and details, remove a task or choose Add task. Review each task before saving. Keep the original description available as context. A qualified professional should confirm the scope and any hazardous or trade-specific work before it begins.
What does a review-required notice mean?
Some work needs human or qualified professional review. The notice is a prompt to confirm the scope, materials and qualifications; it is not a safety diagnosis. The absence of a notice does not establish that work is safe.
Can I use this in an emergency?
Hometown does not dispatch emergency help. If anyone is in immediate danger, contact appropriate emergency services. Do not take photos or measurements if doing so could put someone at risk.
Can I bundle several small tasks?
Yes. Keep each task and expected result separate in one repair list. Discuss which items fit together with a professional. Different trades or review needs may require separate scopes; bundling does not guarantee a lower price or one visit.
Bids and bookings
What should I compare in a bid?
Compare the included work, exclusions, materials, timing, expiry and clarification notes alongside the total. Resolve missing details and scope changes before choosing. The example comparison uses three fixed sample bids, separate from your repair list.
Where are the bids for my project?
Live project invitations and bidding are still being prepared. For now, explore the example comparison to understand what to look for in a bid. A browser draft or example is not a posted job or a received bid.
What happens when I choose a bid?
Hiring, scheduling and booking confirmation are still being prepared. A bid example or prepared project does not confirm an appointment.
How do I manage my own bids?
Contractor bid management is still being prepared. Keep the work, materials, exclusions and timing clear while discussing a project; these details do not create a submitted Hometown bid.
Does Hometown collect payment?
Payment collection is not available in this environment yet. A prepared project or example bid is not a confirmed booking or payment receipt. For now, use the planner to prepare and save your work.
Drafts and photos
What is saved while I prepare a project?
Typing and task edits stay in the open workspace; do not assume every change has been saved. Choose Save project and wait for confirmation. A browser copy successfully kept by Save project or the sign-in steps may be recoverable on this device for up to seven days, when storage is available. People with access to a shared browser may be able to see guest work.
Browser-only work does not automatically transfer to another browser, device or website address. Opening recovered work does not by itself restart that window. Expired records are cleaned up when storage is accessed, rather than at an exact erasure time. Cleared or unavailable storage and missing photos can prevent recovery. Keep your original photos. Account saves are separate from this device recovery window.
How do I keep my prepared work through signup?
Use the same website address, browser and device. Start with Save project, then complete the signup, verification or sign-in steps shown. Review any prompt before replacing different work.
Back on Home, check your tasks, photos and project city or ZIP. Choose Save project. If the ownership dialog appears, check This project belongs in my account only for your own work and choose Confirm and save project. Wait for confirmation that the project was saved to your account. Completing account steps alone is not an account save or a public post.
For saved account work, open My Account and My Projects. Recoverable local work may appear under Continue your work with Continue project. Review it and save it to the correct account before relying on it.
How is a browser draft different from a saved job?
A browser draft is local recoverable work with a window of up to seven days after successful retention, when storage is available. An account save stores your reviewed project and photos privately in the owning homeowner account; wait for confirmation. Find it in My Account under My Projects and choose Open project. Signing out, device expiry or clearing browser storage does not delete account saves. Neither a browser save nor an account save posts the project.
What happens to my before photos?
Attach photos to the task they describe using Choose photos or the photo drop area. Check the previews, remove any wrong photo and choose Save project. Follow the account confirmations and wait for the saved confirmation. Saving privately does not publish photos. Public posting shares only the selected processed previews after your review and consent. Check visible content for exact addresses, access codes, documents and other people’s private details; processing does not guarantee they are hidden. Removing a task photo does not delete the original file on your device.
How do I add photos to my saved project?
In My Account, open My Projects and choose Open project. On Home, add or remove photos on the relevant task, review the changes, then choose Save project and wait for confirmation. Save and confirm current work before opening a different project or choosing Plan another project; do not assume a switch preserves unsaved edits. Saving a changed posted project revokes its previous public page and photos until you review and post again.
What happens if browser storage is cleared?
Clearing this website’s browser storage can remove locally retained work and photos. It does not delete original files on your device or projects and photos already saved to your account. Signing out does not delete those account records either. Keep your originals and check the account-save confirmation before relying on recovery.
How do I post a saved project?
In My Projects, choose Review posting, or use the posting review shown after an account save on Home. Review the exact task wording, selected processed photos, public city, area or ZIP and homeowner profile link. Confirm the routine type and scope for every task, photo rights and public-sharing consent, then choose Confirm public review. Separately choose Post project when available. Use View posted project to check the result.
The supported classes are cabinet hardware adjustment, freestanding furniture assembly and simple surface cleaning. Hazardous, trade-specific, unknown or mixed work stays held; no human-clearance service is available through this flow. A posted project does not send invitations, start bids, hire or schedule a contractor, or collect payment.
How do I withdraw or change a posted project?
Open its Review posting controls and choose Withdraw project. Saving a changed version also revokes subsequent public reads of that project and its photos; unsaved edits do not. Other projects remain independent. Your private saved versions and originals remain, and withdrawing a project does not remove the independently public homeowner profile. Already viewed, downloaded, copied or shared material cannot be recalled. Read Privacy before publishing.
Choosing a professional
What does a published profile tell me?
A professional supplies their name, biography, service categories and city. Confirm relevant experience, qualifications, insurance and suitability for your particular work. A published profile does not itself establish that those details have been independently checked.
How should I handle a change or concern?
Keep the task details and questions available. Discuss changes with a qualified professional before work proceeds. A prepared project is not a confirmed booking or payment receipt. Do not rely on Hometown for emergency response or an insurance guarantee.
